The command depends on the linux distribution installed on your dedicated server or on your virtual private server. First your need login as root. After this you have to type:
1) RedHat Linux
Start mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysqld start
stop mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysqld stop
restart mysql server
# /etc/init.d/mysqld restart
2) Fedora Core
Start mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysqld start
stop mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysqld stop
restart mysql server
# /etc/init.d/mysqld restart
3) SUSE
Start mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysql start
stop mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysql stop
restart mysql server
# /etc/init.d/mysql restart
4) Linux Debian
Start mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysqld start
stop mysql server:
# /etc/init.d/mysqld stop
restart mysql server
# /etc/init.d/mysqld restart
